M. Fether asked: I have a 6-7 year old male cat who, for the past three years or so, has a habit of ****** or “spraying” on things. We have a younger female cat, she’s about three years now, and it has been going on before we got her. We also recent got an even younger female cat, about 1, 2 years. When she arrived, he started it more, but that was obviously territorial.
He has backed off in doing it, but when you walk into the bathroom and get a terrible smell of cat urine, maybe 2-3 times a week, it is very difficult. We have brought him to the vet, he has no urinary tract infection. We have one dog and have always had her since we first got him, they get along fine.
It’s becoming a real problem, we have tried everything to get it to stop and the only thing that works are some feline pheromone diffusers, but they are become rather costly.
There is an option of removing his glands, we have been offered by a vet, but it is expensive and we are unable to afford it.
Putting up with this is getting old. We love him dearly, but it’s a test. He focuses on canvas cloth, and wet items (i.e. towels) and does not always limit himself to corners. Once even we found a large spot on an armchair.
Please help! Anything to make him stop this will be lovely!
He IS in fact neutered. Has been ever since we got him. The female cats as well are all spayed.
